ABOUT ROBIN BOWER
Writer. Editor.
Traveller. Observer.
Helping writers tell their stories with clarity, while exploring my own through books, essays, photography and art.

My story
For more than thirty years I've worked with words in many forms, from educational publishing and international magazines to government publications, books, digital media and creative writing. My career has taken me from Melbourne publishing houses to Hong Kong, where I managed international jewellery magazines, and back to Western Australia where I led editing and publishing projects for the Geological Survey of Western Australia. Along the way I've worked with authors, researchers, educators, scientists and government agencies, helping turn complex ideas into clear, engaging publications.
Today I work as a freelance editor and writer, helping authors shape their manuscripts while continuing to publish my own books and essays.

Books and creative work

I'm fascinated by the relationship between travel, creativity and observation.
My Senses series combines writing, photography and original artwork to explore destinations through sight, sound, taste, smell and touch.
I also write essays on Substack under Imagine Write Create, sharing reflections on travel, creativity and the writing life.
Alongside my books I've developed interactive ESRI StoryMaps exploring subjects ranging from diamonds and pearls to graphite, combining storytelling with photography, maps and digital media.
Community
Writing has always been about community as much as creativity.
For four years I've served on the committee of PEN Perth, where my roles have included Writers in Prison Coordinator together with responsibility for social media and communications.
Through PEN, I help promote freedom of expression, support writers at risk and encourage literary engagement within Western Australia.
I've also served as:
-
President, Editors WA
-
Secretary, Plainspeakers Toastmasters
-
Assistant editor – indigo literary journal
